چکیده

Periodontal diseases are global health concern since they affect almost 20-50% of population and widespread in both developed developing countries. disease develops as result persistent infection caused by different periodontopathic bacteria inflammation tooth's supporting tissue. Traditional methods periodontal care involve mechanical removal biofilm using antibiotics antibacterial disinfectants supplemental measure. However, locations with restricted access, plaque decrease quantity pathogenic organisms may suffer. Furthermore, increased antibiotic resistance has led to development newer therapeutic modalities, including photodynamic therapy (PDT). Application PDT periodontics, such pocket debridement, gingivitis, aggressive periodontitis, continues develop into fully clinical modality is regarded potential new strategy for eliminating periodontitis. Photosensitizer activated light certain wavelength presence O2 used PDT, potent laser-initiated photochemical reaction. Because traditional therapy, scaling root planing, ineffective at entirely infections, especially deep pockets, antimicrobial be viewed alternate approach. Additionally, dual selectivity which restricts damage healthy tissues, gives it competitive advantage over alternative therapies. Purpose this research review the available information about disease.

Bactericidal Efficacy of Photodynamic Therapy Against Periodontal Pathogens in Periodontal Disease: A Systematic Review.

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to assess the bactericidal efficacy of antimicrobial photodynamic dynamic therapy (aPDT) as an adjunct to scaling and root planing (SRP) against periodontal pathogens. BACKGROUND DATA SRP followed by laser therapy has better clinical outcomes than conventional SRP alone. MATERIALS AND METHODS The question addressed was "Does aPDT as an adjunct to SRP exhi...

Is photodynamic therapy with adjunctive non-surgical periodontal therapy effective in the treatment of periodontal disease under immunocompromised conditions?

The aim was to assess whether or not photodynamic therapy (PDT) with adjunctive scaling-and-root-planing (SRP) is effective in the treatment of periodontitis under immunocompromised conditions. PubMed/Medline and Google-Scholar databases were searched from 1967 to May 2013 using various key words. Six studies (five experimental and one clinical) were included. In the clinical study, SRP with PD...

Bacterial Endocarditis and Periodontal Disease

Bacterial endocarditis is the infection of inner lining of heart and /or heart valves. This disease is usually related to the presence of some pathogenic bacteria in mouth, digestive system or urinary tract. Most of the times, this infection happens in people with heart problems like the presence of prosthetic valves, history of previous endocarditis, some congenital heart defects and heart tra...

Photodynamic therapy (PDT)

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a comparatively novel therapeutic method involving a safe light source and a light-sensitive substance, termed as photosensitizers (PSs), such as methylene blue (MB), toluidine blue (TBO), sulfonated aluminum phthalocyanine, chlorine derivatives, nontoxic indocyanine green (ICG), and curcumin (CUR). (1) The combination of a nontoxic PS with low-intensity visible li...
